Motherhood is a transformative journey, and recognizing the crucial role mothers play in shaping the nation’s future, the Government of India introduced the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). This revolutionary scheme aims to provide financial assistance to pregnant and lactating women, ensuring a healthy and secure environment for both the mother and the child. In this blog, we will explore the various benefits of PMMVY and guide you on how to avail these essential benefits.
From 01.01.2017, the Maternity Benefit Programme is implemented in all the districts of the country. The programme is named as ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’ (PMMVY). Under PMMVY, a cash incentive of Rs.5000/- is provided directly to the Bank / Post Office Account of Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM) for first living child of the family subject to fulfilling specific conditions
relating to Maternal and Child Health.
Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana:
- Financial Support During Pregnancy and Lactation: PMMVY provides a direct cash benefit to pregnant and lactating women. This financial assistance helps in covering the cost of maternal care, ensuring that expectant mothers receive the necessary nutrition, medical aid, and support during and after pregnancy.
- Promoting Institutional Deliveries: The scheme incentivizes institutional deliveries by providing a cash incentive to pregnant women who choose to deliver their babies in a healthcare facility. This encourages women to seek professional medical care during childbirth, reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.
- Ensuring Adequate Nutrition: PMMVY promotes proper nutrition during pregnancy by encouraging the consumption of a balanced diet. The financial assistance provided aids mothers in meeting their dietary requirements, contributing to the healthy development of the child and reducing the chances of malnutrition.
- Empowering Women: By providing direct financial assistance to women, PMMVY contributes to their economic empowerment. This financial support not only ensures better health for the mother and child but also plays a role in uplifting the socio-economic status of women in the country.
- Conditional Cash Transfer: The scheme operates on a conditional cash transfer model, where beneficiaries receive the financial assistance in installments. This ensures that mothers adhere to the recommended antenatal and postnatal care, promoting a holistic approach to maternal well-being.
How to Avail PMMVY Benefits:
- Registration: Eligible women need to register for the scheme at the nearest Anganwadi center or healthcare facility during the early stages of pregnancy.
- Verification: After registration, the provided details are verified by the concerned authorities to confirm eligibility.
- Application Submission: Once verified, the applicant needs to submit the required documents, including a copy of the mother’s Aadhar card and the child’s birth certificate.
- Cash Transfer: Upon successful verification, the financial assistance is transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiary in installments.
- Follow-up Check-ups: Beneficiaries are encouraged to attend regular check-ups at healthcare facilities to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the child.
